Author: Ankush DeepBack when football was first created, they had no helmets. But, one day a man went to his doctor and his doctor said if you take one more hit to the head you could be mentally damaged or even die. The guy still wanted to play football so he went to his shoe maker and told home to make a leather helmet. After this, the helmet was on every football players’ head. After a while, helmets started advancing and had bars added on to its plastic. But still to this day, with all the technologies we have, we still have concussion in the NFL (National Football League). So, the NFL took matters into their own hands and added a new rule that if the player is on the ground and you hit them in the head, you are suspended for the rest of that game. A helmet company even made safer cushions inside, but they still have concussions. This is why concussions are so dangerous.
Author: Isabella GomezThe flash is a T.V. show that is about a 24-year old male named Barry Allen. He was struck by lightning and got powers and his friends from Star Labs helped him. He uses his powers for good and to help stop the criminals who use their abilities to harm others.
In the lab called Star Laboratories, they use the 4 research areas in STEM. Science, for calculating frequencies and the speed force to find criminals. Technology ,for devices to catch the criminals. They also study engineering to make a suit and to make devices. And the last is mathematics, which they use to calculate where the criminals have gone. This show has lots of science in it. It is also very amazing and I think it is for everyone. There are five seasons right now. I enjoy it with all the science. I love science. Author: Avery HainesA Horned Lizard is a lizard from the Columbia Basin or the Cascade Foothills. They are very small lizards, only about 10 cm long. Some facts are that they weigh less than a quarter and they love ants and beetles. Also, a Horned Lizard will squirt blood from their eyes! But, why do they do this?
Horned Lizards will squirt blood from their eyes when it feels threatened or sees a predator looking like it’s going to attack. The blood comes from the ducts in the corner of their eyes and can travel a distance of three feet. That’s one meter! The Horned Lizard also does this to confuse its predators. Some of the Horned Lizards predators are: birds, coyotes and snakes. The blood does not hurt the lizard, it just confuses the predators. In closing, the Horned Lizard squirts blood from their eyes only when it feels threatened. The Horned Lizard is one of my favorite animals because of their awesome adaptations. Not many people want Horned Lizards because of the blood. I want one, but they are a very threatened species and you have to have a permit to get one. Many people do not like Horned Lizards, but after writing this maybe it could change a couple minds. There are many different types of mammals. Humans are mammals. There are 4,000 different types of mammals. The bull elephant, which is also a mammal, is the largest animal living on land. Mammals are one of the six main classes of animals. Mammals are vertebrates, which means that they all have backbones (spines). Most animals don't have backbones and that makes mammals one of the few groups that have a spine.
Did you know that there are certain classifications to be a mammal? First, they all must have glands that give out milk and this gland is so they can give their baby milk. All mammals have fur or hair and are warm-blooded. Most mammals also have teeth with the exception of some mammals. Mammals can live on land, in the sky, and underwater. They also live in warm and cold temperatures. Dolphins and whales also have hair, you just need a magnifying glass to be able to see it. Mammals have a wider distribution and are more adaptable than any other single class of animals. Humans have depended on other mammals for food and clothing. Domestication of mammals helped to provide a source of protein for ever-increasing human populations and provided means of transportation and heavy work. Other mammals also provide tools for laboratory subjects for the study of human-related physiology, psychology, and a variety of diseases from dental cavities to cancer. Author: Kyle BordesHi, my name is Kyle Bordes and I will be talking to you about how dinosaurs went extinct. So let's first talk about when this awful thing happened. It happened 65 million years ago. Normally when a group of dinosaurs died out it would be replaced with new ones but the devastation 65 million years ago was special.
So you guys have probably heard the reason dinosaurs became extinct. A giant asteroid came and hit Mexico. That's one theory but there are a couple more. The theory about that asteroid can be real but there are many more explanations. If an asteroid really hit the earth then some dinosaurs died, but not all of them. If only a few survived then they should have starved to death. If a couple of small asteroids were to scatter around the earth, the dinosaurs would starve because it would change the climate, and that would kill off all the plants. If all the plants were to be burn or die, that would kill the herbivores. If the herbivores died out than the carnivores would soon have to kill each other. Only a couple of dinosaurs are cannibals, like the carnotaurus, so then all of the dinosaurs would die out. If there is that theory, than there are others. Many scientists think that disease killed the dinosaurs. They say that dinosaurs migrated to other lands because what else could they do, just sit around all day? After traveling they reach new lands. Sort of like Christopher Columbus, the diseases of the travelers killed the natives out and also killed the travelers. If this really happened, then why do we not have the viruses? Unless we do, I cannot believe this theory. Also, why would the dinosaurs move so far? So, like I said earlier, or more like a couple of seconds ago- I don't believe this. The last theory I will talk about is that they are actually not extinct. AAAHH... oh no, so “scary”. No, they would be birds. That’s right, the tweety tweet things are relatives of our beloved Piatnitzkysaurus. For all of you who don't know what a Piatnitzkysaurus is then I have a picture. This may be the most reasonable theory other than the asteroids. Did you know scientists are finding T-Rex DNA in my favorite animal...a chicken? So unless chickens were already chickens out there when dinosaurs ruled the earth, then I believe in the asteroid theory. So that basically wraps everything up, but I have some cool dinosaurs I want to show you. The first one is called a Drinker Nisti. This is a small herbivore who would be normally picked on, and by picked on I mean picked out of a raptor’s teeth. Allosaurus was one of the most fierce dinosaurs because it would regrow its teeth like a shark. Now, the last thing is the Triceratops. They were a herd of dinosaurs that were great moms because they would rather die than having their kids eaten. Now Trikes are my favorite dinosaur, I don’t know why, because they are just cool. Thank you for your time I hope you enjoyed. Author: Diego CervantesHave you ever wondered what makes up the world? Well, now you will know. The Earth is made out of rocks and minerals, and if you think about it, there are rocks and minerals basically everywhere. Rocks and minerals can serve many purposes in your life.
There are three kinds of rocks: sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks. A sedimentary rock is made when rocks are weathered down over time and they break into smaller pieces of it called sediments. This kind of rock makes up 75 percent of the Earth's surface. Whereas a metamorphic rock is made from both heat and pressure or just heat, or just pressure. You can find those kinds of rocks in the Earth's crust. Metamorphic and Igneous rocks are both 95 percent of Earth's crust. Finally, an igneous rock is made when molten magma hardens and becomes a solid. A mineral is way different compared to a rock. A mineral is a natural occuring solid, ignorant substance. Most minerals are created up of repeating structures called crystals. Us humans use minerals to build cars, computers, fertilize soil, and clean our teeth. Did you know that your body contains 60 minerals, including iron and copper? Author: Karen Barajas

Author: Ashlan BrantleyWe have all heard the equation E=Mc2 created by scientist Albert Einstein. But do we all really know what it stands for? The E stands for energy, nuclear energy. The energy is amassed in the center, or nucleus, of an atom. Since this energy is enclosed in the nucleus, it is called nuclear energy. This energy is set free when the nucleus splits apart. The process that takes place is called fission. Fission is when the atom breaks apart and splits up into smaller atoms. Nuclear energy uses this process called fission to generate your heat and electricity. More than fifteen percent of the energy used in our world is actually nuclear energy.
Some people believe that nuclear energy is harmful to the environment. I, however, believe that it is in some ways, but also isn’t. When used as a reactor fuel, it creates radioactive waste. Since it may be radioactive, this may be harmful to humans, animals, and other living organisms. If a power plant produces fossil fuels, they will most likely poison the atmosphere and environment, which helps cause pollution. However, some people now consider it green energy. Power pants dedicated to nuclear energy do not pollute the air or create carbon dioxide, which is very good for the environment. I’ll let you decide for yourself: is nuclear energy harmful or helpful for the environment? You have probably heard of nuclear bombs. It has led you to believe that they are used in war. Actually, only two have ever been used in warfare. Both were used in Japan, one in Hiroshima and the other in Nagasaki during World War two, causing Japan to surrender. So believe it or not, nuclear bombs are actually rarely used in wars. Although we have already learned about one way nuclear energy is made, there is one more in progress. Scientists are working on coming up with a way where atoms fuse together. This new work in progress is called fusion. The energy is released when atoms fuse (combine together), literally. They join together, forming a much bigger atom. Early on there was excitement all about this new source of energy, however, there was also a fear because it was associated with weaponry. Today in history there is excitement about the discovery of fusion and that fission is now considered a source of green energy. There are so many possibilities and new things about nuclear energy that are yet to be discovered. Author: Jia CamachoAtoms are particles of matter that describe different elements. Atoms consist of a nucleus that is surrounded by one or more electrons. Electrons are negatively charged while protons have a positive charge. They are made up of 3 smaller particles which are neutrons, which have no charge, electrons, and protons. Protons and neutrons stay in the middle of the atom while electrons surround it. The number of protons and electrons are always the same, but neutrons don’t always have the same amount as the protons.
Everything is made up of matter, so everything is made up of atoms. Atoms make up everything. Anything that takes up space or has mass is made out of matter. Atoms are the smallest building blocks of chemistry and cannot be created nor destroyed. The fact that they cannot be created or destroyed creates predictions of where they come from. |
