One day, there were two whales that were swimming in the ocean. Then, something went wrong. One whale went missing and the second whale couldn't find it. So, the second whale called more whales to help. This is one reason why whales communicate. Toothed whales communicate by using high frequency clicks and whistles. Another reason why whales communicate is to sing. When males sing, it lets females know that they are interested in reproducing. Singing also makes it clear to other males that they have claimed territory. It is very important for animals to communicate because without communicating, they won't be able to tell each other when there is danger, and they also need it to survive. Communication ensures that they have a chance at living a longer life.
