“One small infection form can wipe out an entire species.” This is a line from the game Halo 3 and can be referenced to how deadly the parasite, the Flood, really is. The Flood is a parasite that is highly infectious and infected a highly advanced race called the Forerunners. The Flood is very advanced and infectious, being able to wipe out a race this advanced.
The Flood uses small infection forms, as shown below, to start an outbreak. They do this by using their penetrators on your neck and spinal cord. Then, they inject the Flood supercell which turns your cells into Flood cells. This leads to decomposition of your skin, effectively rotting it. Finally, the Flood cells manipulate your limbs into becoming grotesque limbs for the Flood’s own use. The Flood also destroys your mental state, gaining all of your memories and information about you. After this process, the infected host can become a combat form or a carrier form, which carries more infection forms. These are just some details of how the deadliest parasite gains control of their victims. An outbreak is one of the deadliest things that can ever happen in the Halo universe. So, keep in mind if you see a small, pod-like shape running around, it could cause the eradication of your whole species and other life in the universe.
