Have you ever wondered what makes up the world? Well, now you will know. The Earth is made out of rocks and minerals, and if you think about it, there are rocks and minerals basically everywhere. Rocks and minerals can serve many purposes in your life.
There are three kinds of rocks: sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks. A sedimentary rock is made when rocks are weathered down over time and they break into smaller pieces of it called sediments. This kind of rock makes up 75 percent of the Earth's surface. Whereas a metamorphic rock is made from both heat and pressure or just heat, or just pressure. You can find those kinds of rocks in the Earth's crust. Metamorphic and Igneous rocks are both 95 percent of Earth's crust. Finally, an igneous rock is made when molten magma hardens and becomes a solid.
A mineral is way different compared to a rock. A mineral is a natural occuring solid, ignorant substance. Most minerals are created up of repeating structures called crystals. Us humans use minerals to build cars, computers, fertilize soil, and clean our teeth. Did you know that your body contains 60 minerals, including iron and copper?
