The first ever organized track meet was in 1873. It was started by the NYAC (New York Athletic Club) and was founded in 1868. At it's beginnings, it had about 8,600 members. Going back further in time, the year of the first actual Olympic event was a foot race in the year 776 B.C.E. The man who won the first ever Olympic event was named Koroibos. He was a Greek, and it was actually the Greeks who created what we now know as Track and Field.
