The best pet for your family is a dog. The top family dogs are Labrador Retriever, German Shepherd, and in third place Golden Retriever. I have two Golden Retrievers in my family, Chloe who’s almost two and Zachary who is almost eight.
There are more than 150 dog breeds. They are divided into eight classes: sporting, hound, working, terrier, toy, non-sporting, herding and miscellaneous. Dogs are very smart and highly trainable, they can learn up to 250 gestures. Dogs have a sense of time: they miss you when you are gone and they know when it’s time to eat.
Dogs whiskers are sort of like “night vision” to them. Their whiskers help them detect changes around them to protect them against any possible danger. Dogs can hear four times as far as humans. The only sweat glands dogs have are on their paws between their pads. On a hot summer day wetting a dogs feet can really help cool them down. They will also pant to cool down. Dogs age a lot faster than humans. A one year old dog is physically as mature as a fifteen year old child. Large breed dogs age faster than small breed dogs. Depending on the breed, dogs can have 125 million-300 million scent glands compared to the 5 million humans have. Dogs' scent glands are why they can detect your feelings and even sometimes disease.
I love having dogs, they are an important part of my family. My dogs comfort me when I’m sad and greet me when I get home. I could not imagine my life without dogs.
